A new Public Policy Polling survey in Maine shows Paul LePage (R) leading Libby Mitchell (D) in the race for governor, 43% to 29%, with independent Eliot Cutler at 11%.

"The thing drivings the GOP poll advantage in Maine are the same we're seeing everywhere: a unified Republican base, a lack of interest from Democratic voters, a strong GOP lean with independents, and the specter of an unpopular Democratic President and Governor hanging over the heads of the party's candidates."

Pelosi Could Be Least Popular Democrat

Taegan Goddard's Political Wire - Wed, 09/08/2010 - 15:37
A new CNN/Opinion Research poll finds 51% of Americans have an unfavorable view of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) with just 33% having a favorable view.

Said pollster Keating Holland: "Pelosi's unfavorable rating hit 50 percent at the start of this year and has stayed there throughout the spring and summer. That arguably makes her the least popular Democrat in the country."

Interestingly, just 22% have a favorable view of House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), the man who hopes to replace Pelosi as speaker.

Endoursing Andrew Coumo for NY Gubernatorial Race

Community Blogs from Democrats.org - Wed, 09/08/2010 - 15:37
As a fromer residence in the State of New York, I am proud to be a Coumo for Governor supporter. As Attorney General Andrew fought hard to get jail time for thoses who scamed New York Taxpayers. He fought hard to get Violent Preadtors off streets and Computers.

In my belief Andrew Cuomo is nothing like Governor Patterson (Who lies about solicating $6000 worth of World Series tickets to the NY Yankees) or Eliot Spitzer (Frmr Governor who paid for escorts while Governor of New York.)

If you want someone who is way out of Pattersona nd Spitzer leauge vote Andrew Cuomo for Governor of New York on 9/14/10 and Novmber 2, 2010.

Why Kathleen Rice of Attorney General of New York?

Community Blogs from Democrats.org - Wed, 09/08/2010 - 15:27
I am backing Kathleen Rice to be the next AG of New York because as a Nassus Distric Attorney she fought for soultion to crack down on both domestic and gang Violence. She has cracked down on Cyber preadtors and beleieve that if you rip the taxpayers of NY off you should serve time. She has receieved endoursements from EMILY'S LIST, WOEMNS TAP FUND.

Eric Shinderman is okay but not the best candidate for AG. His ex-wife is getting $900,000 to run his campign and create attack ads, and establish plans to attack his opponets.

Jimmy Carter's White House Diary

Taegan Goddard's Political Wire - Wed, 09/08/2010 - 15:11
Coming this month: White House Diary by Jimmy Carter.

"Each day during his presidency, Jimmy Carter made several entries in a private diary, recording his thoughts, impressions, delights, and frustrations. He offered unvarnished assessments of cabinet members, congressmen, and foreign leaders; he narrated the progress of secret negotiations such as those that led to the Camp David Accords. When his four-year term came to an end in early 1981, the diary amounted to more than five thousand pages. But this extraordinary document has never been made public -- until now."

McCain Dishes on Palin

Taegan Goddard's Political Wire - Wed, 09/08/2010 - 15:05
On the Tonight Show to promote her book Dirty Sexy Politics, Meghan McCain talked about the moment she learned that her father chose Sarah Palin to be his running mate.

Said McCain: "I found out about an hour before I went on stage with her. I think they were scared I'd say something and whatever and, you know, like the rest of the country, I had no idea who she was, and I was actually, like, crying on the bus on the way to the rally... And I found out who she was, and I remember being on stage and distinctly remembering, God, let her not have any skeletons in the closet, please God. And if you see any video footage of it, I looked panicked. I was just scared. I was really scared. I didn't know her... my initial reaction was 'who the hell is Sarah Palin', like everybody else."

Today: President Obama and Tim Kaine on What’s at Stake in November

Barack Obama's Blog - Wed, 09/08/2010 - 14:57
Two big speeches to watch today: first is Democratic Party Chairman Tim Kaine in Philadelphia kicking off Democrats’ fall campaign push, followed by President Obama in Cleveland on his plans to create jobs and move our economy forward. Both addresses will highlight what’s at stake in this November’s election, and how Democrats are moving our country forward while Republicans want to go back to policies that got our economy in trouble to begin with.
Watch Chairman Kaine’s speech at the University Pennsylvania live here at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
Listen to the President speak live at 2:10 p.m. Eastern Time.
ABC News on the President’s speech today:
President Obama today heads to Cleveland, Ohio, to contrast his economic proposals – and what White House advisers are calling “economic values” – with those of Republicans, most notably those of the would-be House Speaker should the GOP recapture the House in November, House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, who delivered an economic speech in Cleveland two weeks ago.

The president will talk about the concepts that Boehner spoke of during his speech and highlight the “different values that animate our thinking about how you build a strong economy,” a White House official said. “The president will be talking about these values and the divergent paths that the two, the two parties are proposing this fall in the speech tomorrow, and that’s largely what the speech will be about.”
Watch Chairman Kaine at 12:30 p.m ET here, and listen to the President at 2:10 ET here.

Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson (R) is exploring a presidential bid even though he knows most people have never heard of him, the AP reports.

Said Johnson: "There are two courses of action. One would be to do nothing and the other would be to burn some shoe leather and see what happens. I'm burning some shoe leather."

Johnson supports slashing government spending, including big cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, but also defense spending. He also supports legalizing marijuana, expanding legal immigration and legalizing civil unions for gays and lesbians.

Donilon Seen as Favorite to Replace Rahm

Taegan Goddard's Political Wire - Wed, 09/08/2010 - 14:42
Amid speculation White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel will leave to run for Mayor of Chicago, Politico reports the most likely candidate to replace him "is Tom Donilon, a deputy national security adviser, whose political experience goes back to the Carter-Mondale campaign. Donilon earned his chops in government as the first assistant secretary of State for public affairs under President Bill Clinton."

"Another possible prospect is Ron Klain, chief of staff to Vice President Joe Biden, who has served in string of sensitive positions, including chief of staff to Vice President Al Gore chief of staff during the 1996 reelection campaign."

First Read: "On Today, White House adviser David Axelrod said there are plenty of folks in the White House ready to fill "the breech." Is that a hint the replacement could come from the current team? Sure sounds like it, and keep this in mind: The four people in the West Wing who will have the most influence on the president about the next chief of staff are: Rahm, Axelrod, Gibbs, and VP Biden."

endangering our troops?

Community Blogs from Democrats.org - Wed, 09/08/2010 - 13:37
Where was all this concern for our troops safety when they needed up-armered hum vees? or the bullet proof vests that where substandard ? After 8 yrs of neeeding armered trucks they finaly have some in afganistan. Aren't the currupt politions in afganistan more of a problem than a fringe priest in fl. ? If your concerned with our troops safety then you have two options - stay but stop the nation building and concentrate on killing the enemy . so we can leave . or leave now and do it with drones, one head at a time if need be . But WAR is always a dangerous place to be .They are never going to be a trustworthy partner (atleast not the forseeable ) We have killed or injured someone from every family in that country . Just how "friendly" would you be? Keep the troops safe AT HOME so when we realy do need them for a realy important mission that will directly relate to our safety -they will be ready willing and able .Burning a book will not change the overall picture. They are already killing as many as possible . They are not going to stop either way .They do not have a middle ground.

Christie Heads to Iowa

Taegan Goddard's Political Wire - Wed, 09/08/2010 - 13:01
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) "is hitting the road to unveil a string of endorsements in the coming weeks," Politico reports.

"In what constitutes his first major political trip, the blue-state governor who has the GOP enthralled by his face-off with the public-sector unions -- and his passing of a budget with surprising ease -- will be traveling to some of the nation's hottest political battlegrounds in the coming weeks, including a stop in presidential proving ground Iowa."

The Iowa stop will likely stoke speculation Christie is feeling out a presidential bid, but he's ruled it out before. And he did so again in an interview with Don Imus yesterday.

Said Christie: "No, no. Come on. Look at me. Me for President? Come on, seriously. No way. No way."

Krugman makes his most eloquent plea yet for doing something, but the political will is not there. In the end, if this recession lasts for years and they voted GOP in 200, the
Americans will have had themselves to thank.

Paul explains the parallels between the Great Recession and Great Depression.
